Sonic the Hedgehog, his drawing style involves sharp edges along with rounded ones. The sharp edges compliment his speed, giving him a fast appearance. While his rounded edges allow the viewer to picture him being able to curl into a ball that is frequented in the cartoon.

week 9

Metroplis and Spirited Away use colors and tones to create a shadow/light effect that makes the characters seem real. The darkening of colors to create shadows along with the lightening of them to create highlights, gives objects and characters a 3d element. The perspective of the camera, being 3rd person normally, as well as the motions and panning give the feeling of a large world. The way that it floats from scene to scene, and in and out of areas is a seemless way to allow the viewer to become immersed in the worlds, and feel the multi-level presence.

post 7

In Metropolis the use of camera angles and panning creates different moods for the viewer. It gives feelings of authority in certain scenes as well as feelings of vulnerability in others. The panning allows for places to feel big, and expansive. The motions of the video create feelings of being high up, when it screen pan's down. I feel that the use of panning and angles really sets this animation apart from others, the abstract angles and motions work very well.

Lemony Snickett

The feel that the end title scene compliments the movie very well. It has the same dark, dreary motif, as well as many of the movies icons in it. There are an abundance of eyes, which are a staple in the film, the three siblings are venturing together into the unknown. The theme of sophisticated yet simple is reiterated here, as well as the beginning graveyard scene. The movie is a very abstract collection of things, and this is mimicked in the credits. The way that the artist uses transition compliments the film greatly. They are clean, and use the art as a medium to create a new scene. This works very well in my opinion.

Peer critique

I watched Chad's haiku video. I really like the color tones, and the perspective he chose for his video. Another thing that i really enjoyed was the way the girl was drawn as well as the walking motion she preformed. I feel that having more people in the scene would improve it greatly, as well as some sound.

week 3/4

I watched the video Covert again after class. I feel that the genre it falls under is a spy mystery movie. I believe it was created in Flash. The voices and music really lend to the mystery of the video. The sound effects give more information about the film. I believe that the drawing style and animation style really works. The way that the creator uses camera angle to minimalize the amount of difficult animation such as walking. Another thing that really aids in making this video effective is the use of shadows and lighting, as well as textures. I believe that all these things make this video very effective.

Week2 Blog

I feel that The Adventures of Prince Achmed, relates in many ways to modern animation. Although the technique may seem primitive, and jumpy it is very useful and get the story across to the audience. Like many animations of today, Prince Achmed engulfs the viewer into the story and keeps them wanting more. I feel that the use of hand movements, eye movements and other subtle things create an impact that words lack. Today's animations, while mostly having voice-overs and such, imply the same techniques. Modern animation's subtle movements are often lost in the big picture due to the sound or voices, yet in Prince Achmed you are more prone to watch every subtle movement due to the lack of voices.
